Coast Guard Family Support: Who to Call and What They Do
In the Coast Guard, your family support runs through the Office of Work-Life and your unit Ombudsman.
A structural note
The Coast Guard sits under the Department of Homeland Security, not the Department of Defense. Some resources route differently, but Military OneSource and most family programs still apply to you.
The Ombudsman is your unit link
The Ombudsman is a volunteer appointed by the command who moves information between leadership and families and provides referrals.
Work-Life is the professional office
The Office of Work-Life handles family support, family advocacy, child care, and financial readiness. For emergency financial help, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance is the Coast Guard's own aid society.
For your baby
Ask Work-Life about the New Parent Support Program: home visits, classes, and playgroups.
What it does not do
It connects and refers. For civil or legal disputes, use the base Legal Assistance office.
