How Much Do Baby Wipes Cost?
2 min read
Baby wipes cost about $0.02 to $0.05 per wipe, which works out to roughly $10 to $20 a month for most families, or around $120 to $300 over the first year. They are one of the cheaper baby essentials, but the cost adds up because you use more than you would think. Here is the breakdown.
Per-wipe cost
Disposable wipes run about $0.02 to $0.05 each. Budget and store brands land near $0.02, and premium or sensitive-skin brands reach $0.05 or a little more. Buying in bulk drops it to $0.01 to $0.03 per wipe. Quick example: a 200-count pack for $4 is $0.02 a wipe.
What you will use, and spend
Most families use 10 to 15 wipes a day for diaper changes alone, and more once you count the ones that clean hands, faces, and messes around the house. That is roughly 300 to 450 wipes a month. At $0.03 each, that is about $10 to $14 a month, and heavier use or premium brands push it toward $20 or more. Over the first year, plan for about $120 to $300.
How to spend less
Buy refill packs, not the hard plastic tubs. The tub is convenient once, but you are paying for the case. Refill pouches run far cheaper per wipe. Store brands like Parent's Choice, Up and Up, and Kirkland cost much less than name brands and work the same. Bulk boxes and subscribe-and-save cut it further.
A note for rash-prone babies
If your baby is fighting frequent rash, the wipe matters more than the price. Fragrance-free and alcohol-free is gentler on raw skin, and plain warm water on a cloth is gentler still. More in our post on why your baby keeps getting rashes.
The short version
Baby wipes cost $0.02 to $0.05 each, about $10 to $20 a month, or $120 to $300 the first year. Refill packs and store brands are the cheapest route. Budget them alongside diapers, since the two go together.
